Your Apps on txtWeb:

Which apps do you have on txtWeb currently? Which one is the most popular among users?

I own a number of apps on the platform. They are:

  • @sportkit – This is the most popular one among users. It has everything that a sports lover like me wants. Cricket, football, tennis, etc. I take special care to add more features into this app regularly
  • @smsportal – I have high regards for this app as I had done this for my mini project in my BTech, 3rd year. It provides the latest news in two languages, English & Malayam (You guessed it, I am a proud Malyali!). There’s also a live scores section & a facility to search for news on any topic. Sreejith Murali & Vishnu Vijayan were my partners in the development of this app.
  • @kerberos – This app is for a personal use – I am the the representative of our batch and hence, use this app as a medium to share various information among my batch mates.
  • @olympics –This, of course, is the big one! I was assigned this app as a  project from txtWeb. @olympics provides you with everything about the LONDON 2012 olympics. There’s also a special section to track India’s progress.

Which app are you most proud of having developed and why?

I am proud of each & every app that I’ve made because it made me realise what all I could do!

What was your motivation in developing these apps on txtWeb?

SMS and sports were always my fields of interest. During the early period of my Engineering life ( first two years), I searched  various places on the web on how I could get free sports news, scores etc via SMS. I found the SMS channels, but these weren’t effective. I was even an SMS blogger on tagg.in with 800+ followers (the site has now closed down). Then I found txtWeb & I thought why can’t I make apps of my own to get all the info that I need, rather than depending on others? This is what brought me into this & now I find joy and learning in SMS app development.

Your experience with txtWeb:

What has been your learning while developing apps on txtWeb?

It’s been great. The tutorials & documentation provided by txtWeb are quite good. It is easy for a new developer to understand the working of the whole system. Also the language independent feature makes it quite unique.

Considering that txtWeb is platform agnostic, which technology do you use to develop apps on txtWeb?

I’ve used PHP in the development l of all my apps so far. I would certainly like to build it in other languages too.

As a developer, why would you recommend txtWeb platform to other developers?

txtWeb makes people  realise the power of SMS -- something that most people are not aware. It is also very user-friendly and can be used by anyone with basic knowledge in a coding language.

Other Platforms:

Which are the other platforms you have developed apps on?

I haven’t really worked on any other. The IM bots, particularly the gtalk bots amazes me & I am trying to develop one.

Which online resources, websites, forums do you often visit and recommend to other developers?

W3schools.com is a good resource for any beginner to learn PHP. The stackoverflow.com is helpful in solving the doubts. The txtWeb forum & Facebook group is a great medium in resolving the issues related to the platform. Above all, there is the Google..!

Who is your role model? What are your personal aspirations?

My only inspiration is Jesus Christ. He guides me through everything in my life. Anything & everything that I’ve in my life is by his grace & I love him so much..:)
